Casal Garcia's World

Its motto remains intact and recognized around the world: Discover Alegria, Discover Casal Garcia!
This rhyme, which remains in the memory of so many people, shows that the celebration of each moment is essential. And, in this way, it became the anthem of the brand and of the Portuguese joy.

The Region

The Vinho Verde Demarcated Region extends throughout the northwest of Portugal, in the area traditionally known as Entre-Douro-e-Minho (that means between Douro and Minho). Its limits to the north are the Minho river, to the south the Douro river and is surrounded by several mountains. It is often referred to an amphitheater facing the Atlantic Ocean. In terms of area it is the largest Portuguese Demarcated Region and one of the largest in Europe.

This Atlantic influence, the mainly granitic soils, the mild climate, and high rainfall, translate into the freshness, lightness and elegance of the wines from this region. The natural conditions of this region are ideal to produce excellent white wines, as well as sparkling wines and spirits due to their fruity and fresh aromatic character, low alcohol content and high acidity.

The First Winemaker

In 1936, a French winemaker named Eugène Héllisse showed up at Quinta da Aveleda. He was coming from the Douro by train and passing by the property of the Guedes family, he decided to stop and talk to the owner, at the time Roberto Guedes, 3rd generation of the family. This winemaker was surprised at how the vines were planted and even more surprised when told that each parcel had a different grape variety. This type of viticulture was only seen in France and the curious winemaker offered his services to produce an exceptional white wine. He was assigned a vineyard, called Casal Garcia, to experiment. In 1939, the Casal Garcia brand was born, which quickly became a reference for white wine.
